The Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A provides intelligent battery-to-battery charging between your vehicle starter/alternator system and the Fogstar lithium leisure battery.
Capable of delivering up to 50A / 700W, the Orion XS is particularly well suited to modern campervans and motorhomes, including vehicles equipped with smart alternators.

A 50A DC-DC charger can theoretically replace around 50Ah of battery capacity for every hour of driving when operating at full output, although actual charging will depend on battery state of charge, charger settings, alternator conditions and other factors.
Complete 7m DC-DC Installation Kit
We've included the cabling, fuse protection and terminals required for a typical DC-DC charger installation.
The DC-DC installation kit includes:

- 7 metres of 25mm² heavy-duty flexible positive battery cable
- 2 metres of 25mm² heavy-duty flexible negative battery cable
- 2 × Victron MIDI fuse holders
- 2 × 100A MIDI fuses
- 8 × 25mm² M6 battery cable lugs
The non-isolated Orion XS allows the charger negative connection to be grounded locally to a suitable chassis earth or negative busbar, which is why only 2m of negative cable is supplied.
Blue Sea Systems 200A MRBF Battery Protection
We've also included a Blue Sea Systems 200A Marine Rated Battery Fuse (MRBF) together with the appropriate Blue Sea terminal fuse holder.
Unlike a conventional fuse positioned further along a cable run, an MRBF terminal fuse can be installed directly at the battery connection using the appropriate fuse block, providing compact high-current circuit protection close to the power source.
The kit includes:
- 1 × Blue Sea Systems 200A MRBF fuse
- 1 × Blue Sea Systems MRBF terminal fuse block
- Protective insulating cover
This is particularly important when installing lithium batteries because of the high fault currents that LiFePO4 batteries are capable of supplying.

Why Use a DC-DC Charger With Lithium?
Many older campervan electrical systems use a split-charge relay or voltage-sensitive relay (VSR) to connect the starter and leisure batteries while the engine is running.
This approach isn't ideal when upgrading to lithium.
The Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger controls the charging current and voltage delivered to the leisure battery, allowing the Fogstar lithium battery to be charged using an appropriate lithium charging profile while also controlling the load placed on the vehicle charging system.
